Map Pack ranking factors in 2026: a practical checklist

Updated: 2026-02-03 • Category: Local SEO

If you want more calls from Google, the goal is simple: earn visibility in the map pack and convert when people click. Use this checklist to improve relevance, prominence, and trust - with reviews (and review removals) as a core lever.

Reality check: There’s no single “hack.” Local ranking is the compounding effect of clean data, strong GBP signals, trust, and engagement.

Checklist: foundation (do these first)

  • Business info is consistent (name, address, phone) across the web.
  • Correct primary category + relevant secondary categories.
  • Services/products populated with real detail.
  • Photos updated regularly (real, not stock-heavy).
  • Business description is clear, specific, and non-spammy.

Checklist: prominence (how you become “the obvious choice”)

  • Reviews: consistent velocity and a conversion-friendly rating.
  • Remove the damage: if fake/malicious reviews are dragging you down, removal is often the fastest recovery.
  • Local links: local partnerships, sponsorships, associations.
  • Citations: quality directories in your vertical + local ecosystem.

Checklist: engagement (what Google sees after you rank)

  • Calls, clicks, directions - rankings can follow engagement.
  • Response strategy - short, professional responses improve trust.
  • Website UX - if users bounce, you lose the benefit of visibility.

Where review removal fits

If your rating dropped suddenly or a cluster of bad reviews changed how buyers react to your profile, waiting it out is expensive. Removing the worst offenders helps restore conversion, and conversion helps restore momentum.

If reviews are dragging down rankings and leads, check the case now. Submit what you have, even if you only have the Business Profile link. If we can’t remove it, you don’t pay.
